“Sơn Ta” Technology
The origin of the long-standing ‘sơn ta‘, also known as natural lacquer, is resin secreted from lacquer trees, which is then mixed with natural color powder to paint or make lacquer. To obtain this type of resin, people have to wake up early in the morning when the sun rises because the lacquer trees stop secreting resin afterward.
About 300 lacquer trees yield 1 kilogram of resin. Therefore, ‘sơn ta‘ is extremely precious. Additionally, it has high adhesion; when dry, it is very durable, waterproof, resistant to pests, withstands acid and seawater, and endures high temperatures. The lacquer surface is easy to polish flat, has a high gloss, and creates a good depth of color, giving a deep and lasting color tone. Moreover, the longer it is left, the more it gains a beautiful ‘time-worn‘ patina.
