Leaving bustling cities, graduates return to their hometowns, low-lying areas, mountainous areas, and coastal villages of Quang Binh province to start their businesses with OCOP products (One Commune One Product program). They not only enrich themselves but also create jobs for many people, develop the economy, and help people develop sustainably.
Start a business with the poor
Mr. Le Thanh Trien (36 years old) is a bachelor of arts from Quy Nhon University, worked in Ho Chi Minh City for 6 years, has a position in a large corporation but left the city to Trung Thuy village (Quang Thuy commune, Ba town). Doan) established a career in handicraft making chopsticks for export. In 2017, he set up a factory, taking advantage of his parents’ small house in the middle of the lowland countryside in the Gianh River area. Trien borrowed more than 800 million VND to invest in opening a chopsticks factory. Chopstick making profession Trien studied in Ho Chi Minh City, worked during the day, and attended vocational training at night with the idea of bringing the craft of chopsticks back to his hometown to help people escape poverty. If other communes in Ba Don town have many high-rise houses and newly purchased cars, Quang Thuy commune is an economically low-lying area. Trien had a heavy heart for his homeland so he decided to return home with his wife, Ho Ngoc Bich Nguyen (34 years old), a girl from Tam Ky, Quang Nam.
With a favorable husband and wife, Trien’s chopstick making profession developed rapidly. Mr. Trien said: “Currently there are 20 poor people working at the factory, with a salary of 5-7 million VND/person/month. Another 50 households receive goods to process at home, with a monthly income of 3.5 million VND. In addition, the 30 seasonal workers are paid fairly for each day’s work, so everyone is excited.” Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Cuc, a resident of Trung Thuy village, said that this land is acidic, so rice production does not yield high yields. She said: “Finding a job is increasingly difficult. Thanks to Uncle Trien who brought chopsticks to the village, I have a job, have insurance, don’t have to go far to live in a house, a monthly salary of 7 million is the dream of many people.” here”.
Trien said that each year the chopstick factory exports about 1.5 million pairs of chopsticks to 63 provinces and cities nationwide. Exported to Korea and China about 100,000 pairs. Total annual revenue reaches more than 8 billion VND from 30 handicraft chopstick products. He is asking the locality to lease land and expand the factory with the hope that Trung Thuy village will produce handicraft chopsticks and help the villagers escape poverty.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Tuan, Deputy Director of the Rural Development Department of Quang Binh province, said: “Le Thanh Trien’s handicraft chopstick products have met 4-star OCOP standards because there are more than 30 rich, friendly designs. improve the environment, create jobs, help the poor escape poverty sustainably, and have a large potential market. Therefore, the way of thinking that we want the whole village to escape poverty with OCOP products is very valid.”
Solve the season of devaluation
Liem Nam seaside village (Ngu Thuy Nam commune, Le Thuy district), in the past, always faced a situation where the fish season lost its value. People struggled to find a way out when young man Nguyen Huu Phuoc (28 years old), graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, returned to his hometown. Invited to join a large seafood company, after 3 years, Phuoc thought that with a university degree in seafood processing, he needed to return home to help his parents and villagers.
From loan capital and savings of 900 million VND, Phuoc opened a small frozen warehouse according to OCOP product construction standards. The village has 30 fishing boats. In 2019, Phuoc signed a contract to cover all fishing products. With the knowledge he has learned, Phuoc processes squid and fish into many dishes, which are included in safe OCOP products, exported to many provinces such as Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Hanoi, and the Central Highlands region. Phuoc said: “The factory is small, so I asked for local land to open a new, more systematic factory. I plan to have about 50 workers working, increasing production so that people in other villages have better and safer sales opportunities.” more secure”.
In Phuoc’s warehouse, there are quite unique products such as dried snakehead fish and spiced frogs. Upon asking, when the environmental incident affected four central provinces due to Formosa’s waste discharge, Ngu Thuy Nam and Ngu Thuy communes opened a way out by raising snakehead fish and frogs on the sand. High efficiency, but because it is not properly planned, it leads to loss of value. Phuoc purchases and processes products and is accepted by the market. Mr. Nguyen Huu Nam, a supplier of commercial fish and frogs for Phuoc, expressed: “Marine fish, snakehead fish and farmed frog products are processed according to standards to help many people have sustainable, sustainable sources of income. Being pressured by private traders made the villagers very happy. This is a way to help people escape poverty sustainably.”
Building OCOP products from scratch
Nam Nam village (Cu Nam commune, Bo Trach district) is a semi-mountainous land. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh (43 years old) and his wife Nguyen Thi Giang (42 years old), after graduating from Da Nang University of Economics, returned to their hometown to plant fruit trees. In early 2013, it was thought that the sweet fruit would be harvested, but historic storm No. 10 struck, knocking down the garden that had been built for several years. Binh and his wife seemed to collapse. The two started from scratch with money borrowed from relatives and friends, looking to see what trees to plant that would combat climate change, withstand storms, and bring long-term benefits.
He and his wife traveled around the country to learn from experience and returned to start a business with 0.5 hectares of Solanum procumbens. In 2015, he and his wife scraped up all their capital and joined forces with other households to expand the area of growing Solanum procumbens, green tea, and radula. Up to now, his raw material area has more than 10 hectares of clean land, associated with 34 households, does not use chemical fertilizers, refined products from Solanum procumbens extracted according to strict processes, products are sold on the Internet. throughout the provinces. At the Solanum procumbens garden, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Giang said: “This is the land where a storm destroyed the orchard in 2013. Thanks to finding useful plants to plant, every year our Cu Nam Agricultural Cooperative I have a revenue of more than 4 billion VND. Workers receive a salary of 4-7 million VND/month, creating jobs for 30 local workers.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Tuan added: “Cu Nam Agricultural Cooperative has 4-star OCOP products and 3-star OCOP products are tablespoon and climbing eggplant. The products are consumed in many places so farmers benefit greatly. Each area of organic agricultural land of Mr. Binh and Ms. Giang is 10 times more valuable than rice cultivation. With fertilizer prices increasing day by day, people here in the near future will switch to growing medicinal herbs like Mr. Binh and Ms. Giang, because organic agriculture for medicinal herbs is bringing practical benefits and profits. High”.
Rising from difficulties in poor rural areas, on their journey to start a business, they not only think for themselves but also bring knowledge and jobs back to their homeland. Le Thanh Trien was awarded a certificate of merit by the Prime Minister, Nguyen Huu Phuoc was honored by the Central Youth Union, facilitating loans from the youth union to help more local fishermen, while Nguyen Thanh Binh and his wife Nguyen Thi Giang was awarded many certificates of merit at the Central level. They are like hardworking bees, bringing knowledge and jobs to the countryside, developing OCOP products, contributing to local development. Everyone believes that, in the future, Quang Binh’s OCOP products with their contribution will grow stronger and reach further.
